DCU - Green Lantern - Hal

DCU - Green Lantern - Hal Jordan

Part of my DCU characters deviations!

Hal Jordan is one of those characters that was great and then they messed him up!

We haven't seen a decent story with Hal in it since "Final Night", in which he died! Hal was the great hero, who tried to fix things and screwed up, who -blinded by his good cause- lost sight of what is moral. He was the hero who fell, and came back again to save everyone who -in his mind- betrayed him and his cause. And he died trying to do things right! GREAT STORY! GREAT CHARACTER!!! OF course he was such a great character that fans wanted him back. Alive! So, DC writers, gave Jordan a new after-life career as the Spectre! He was to judge others, while fighting his own personal demons and judgment!

And then... stupid fans demanded he should be Green Lantern again and he should be a hero! And then stupid writers and editors said, that it wasn't his fault! It was a yellow-neon bug that infected him, screwed him up and made him do bad things! WHAT A LOAD OF...!?!? WHY!?!?! Why take the thing that made him great away from him!?!?! It's like giving Oracle her legs back! (oh wait! They did that too!!!) And they screwed that excuse up too, as Hal killed all his fellow lanterns long before the evil bug actually infected him! It's sad really! How many crap you can through out to satisfy some unimaginative fans! You could only make this whole story worse by taking Batman completely off character, and have him admit that he was wrong about Jordan... eh... wait a minute!!!

DC (and writer Geoff Jones), I know you gave Batman that punch, to satisfy Hal's fans, but you were wrong!!! It wasn't rewarding! It was patronizing!

If I was to bring Hal back, I wouldn't take his guilt away! That guilt would be his new motivation! His new urge to do the right thing! And the struggle to regain his hero status and the trust from his former friends would make a great read!
